NHS works with homeowners to maintain the appearance and safety of their neighborhoods. With the cooperation of local utility companies, home improvement stores, block clubs and neighborhood councils we help homeowners define and address neighborhood needs so that they can actively improve the quality of life for their families and neighbors. NHS creates community stabilization and preserves affordable housing opportunities across Los Angeles County.
Building Leadership by Organizing Communities (BLOC)
Homeowners can help to stabilize neighborhoods by rallying residents to remain involved in their community. The Building Leadership by Organizing Communities (BLOC) Program enables NHS to connect residents with business, government and social services and, most importantly, equip families with the tools to strengthen their neighborhoods.
BLOC works with new and existing block clubs in targeted neighborhoods in Los Angeles County to provide opportunities for residents to influence their neighborhoods. Through the program, residents learn the value of a more stable and revitalized neighborhood and are taught strategies to transform entire blocks into walkable, safe spaces. BLOC aims to transform communities into neighborhoods of choice for hopeful new buyers with increased access to transportation, community facilities, and other public services.

As part of a continuing effort to revitalize communities throughout Los Angeles County, NHS hosts a quarterly Neighborhood Pride Day. Alongside block clubs, corporate sponsors, non-profit partners and others, NHS and hundreds of volunteers visit target neighborhoods to paint, garden and make minor home repairs for families and seniors.
