Melanie and Eric have been married for six years and moved back to California from Seattle. Melanie has her Masters in Social Work from USC and Eric studied Computer Science at UCLA. Melanie serves as a director over programs working to prevent child sex trafficking and connecting families who were separated at the border with mental health services. Eric runs his own technology business helping organizations build equitable software.
At the time of their purchase, they welcomed their first child Ace. Melanie and Eric are excited about their long anticipated move and proud to call Compton home. They saved consistently and purchased a fixer upper which they plan to custom tailor to meet their needs and
growing family.
Home Matters to Melanie and Eric because to them; home is #community.
Omar and Erika had been trying to buy a home for a number of years and were concerned that they could not afford a down payment and closing costs. Thanks to a referral to NHS from one of our banking partners, Omar and Erika were able to qualify for $25,000 in down payment assistance through one of our programs. They were renting at Erika’s mother’s house and are excited to finally have their own space for them and their family.
To Omar and Erika “Home is home.”
Mr. McNeal a Compton native and was referred to NHS from his finance and spoke highly of our loan team. This was Mr. McNeal’s first home! He purchased the home for his children and his children’s children to build a legacy for them.
To Mr. McNeal, home means a place of lessons, family and stability.
Geraldine came to NHS in need of down payment assistance and we were here to help! When Geraldine decided that she would become a homeowner, she didn’t look back. She got educated through an 8 hour First Time Homebuyer program and paid down her debts to get her and her three boys on the path of #wealth.
Irma Molina is a proud, longtime resident of Baldwin Park, where she is one of the original homeowners on her street. After decades of watching her children, grandchildren, and the greater Baldwin Park community grow and change, Irma decided that it was finally time to rehab her home. The improvement we made will help her home continue to be a safe and welcoming place.
Aryan and Setareh are immigrants from Iran who came here seeking the American Dream. Aryan arrived in America 20 years ago and he had been living in an apartment for the past five years when his wife Setareh arrived. Aryan had a friend who purchased a home two years ago and was instrumental in supporting Aryan on his journey to becoming a homeowner.
Jose came to the United States from Guatemala almost 40 years ago and dreamed of owning a home: “[We came] to live better, to own a part of this country. It’s a dream.” Their daughter went through NHS to buy a house in Lancaster three years ago; when the couple was finally ready to buy a home, they knew where to turn.
